Place: Mount Montserrat, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain
Date: 2009-09-12
Description: This was taken at the summit of Montserrat (called Sant Jeroni), 1,200 m above sea level. It is the home of the monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat, patron saint of Catalonia, and is one of the most important religious and holidaying destinations in the area.
The picture shows a spectacular rainfall cascading onto the Barcelonan plain below; rain clouds typically lurk at 5 to 6.5 thousand feet, and it is quite unusual to see the full spread of clouds to ground in the one frame. I was lucky to capture this one.
