Photo No. 269 "Cold Haze Invasion"

Title: "Cold Haze Invasion"

Place: Vercors Plateau, Rhône-Alpes, France
Date: 2009-01-01
Description: This photography was taken enjoying a fabulous snow trekking experience on the Plateau du Vercors, close to the Grand Veymont summit in the Vercors mountains. The weather was beautiful at this high altitude of the Vercors’s mountain, but beneath the entire plain was recovered by fog. This is typical in this region in winter, and is caused by a temperature inversion under persistent anticyclonic conditions. This inversion explains why the haze on the picture crawls on the ground between trees and cannot rise up into the sky.
