Title: "Iridescent Altocumulus Lenticularis Clouds in Strasbourg"

Place: Strasbourg, Alsace, France
Date: 2009-06-07 @ 20:14
Description: Clouds of small droplets of very constant size sometimes burst in bright iridescent colours, while they are passing close to the sun in the sky (Attention: While watching or shooting photos, avoid the sun!). Light scatters around tiny objects and interference do the trick here. In addition to high latitude polar mesospheric clouds (mother of pearl clouds) particularly fast growing, symmetric altocumulus clouds (like this lenticularis) tend to show bright iridescence.
