Description: Shown here is fallen snow on the frozen waters of the Grand Canal in Dublin. Snowfall is a rare event in Ireland and it is always a joy to see everyday places utterly transformed. The snow started on the night before and was gone by lunchtime the next day. This picture was taken early in the morning. The canal shown, which predates railways, was opened in 1763 and was used to link the Shannon River to the world famous Guinness Brewery.
