Description: People typically watch contrails from a ground-based perspective. Here we can see a contrail how it appears from a somewhat higher position, from high above in the late afternoon. The picture was taken at a time close to sunset. This explains the long shadows and the golden-orange colour of the strato-cumulus clouds at low level. The contrail itself appears in a nearly white colour, as it was still being illuminated by the sun.
