Photo No. 376 "Single-Cell Cumulonimbus Incus from a Plane"

Title: "Single-Cell Cumulonimbus Incus from a Plane"

Place: Atlantic Ocean, 1500 to 2000 km east to Boston (Massachusetts, USA), height 12 to 13 km
Date: 2009-09-01
Description: Soon after our aircraft had left Madrid heading towards Boston, the weather became clear, with no clouds at all. We started our long way through the Azores High. After 4 hours, the pretty fair weather began to become enriched with the cloud singles which yet allowed watching the dark-blue sky above as well as bright-blue surface of the Atlantic Ocean beneath. These cloud singles were forerunners of the Gulf Stream region ahead of us. I had only an hour for picturing these clouds, because about two hours before landing at Boston airport, we entered a thick layer of cloudiness accompanied by continuous turbulence and zero visibility in the Gulf Stream region.
