Description: Aurora Borealis, also known as Northern Lights, are not an uncommon sight over Iceland. Their colours, shape and intensity differ in each event and vary from a vague coloured fog in the sky to intense dancing, sharply formed lines and spirals, depending on the strength of the solar wind, amount of photon emissions in the ionosphere, how far the place is from the North Pole and the time distance to the closest equinoxes. Opportunities for observation are best on ice-cold nights, delivering best visibility, usually accompanied by strong winds. The picture was taken in the vicinity of Reykjavík towards the North Atlantic, evident by the orange coloured sky due to city's light smog.
